Our Growing Campus
The Future of First Friends Church
Over the years First Friends has grown from just 10 members meeting in the YMCA to a thriving community church with expanded facilities now serving growing ministries to the people of our area.
In 2016, First Friends paid off its mortgage debt, allowing the opportunity to envision new possibilities and the next phase of the Master Building Plan and many facility improvements have happened since.
Timeline of Growth
- 1946 – First meeting at YMCA, purchase of 31st Street location
- 1959 – Sanctuary, education wing, and gymnasium added
- 1980s – Larger sanctuary and Family Center built
- 1994 – Mortgage paid off, plans to relocate begin
- 1995 – Purchase of 40-acre site on 55th Street
- 1999 – $2M campaign launches new building project
- 2001 – Completion of the new location on 55th Street
- 2016 – Debt Free and property enhancements begin
- NOW – Master Building Plan continues
Plans for the Future
The Building Committee is dedicated to continually improving facilities according to the Master Building Plan through research, prayer, and community support.
Current Project:
- Pavilion roof and ceiling: Our trustees have taken on these projects to improve the outdoor space and help with aesthetics and cleanliness.
- Resurface and strip the parking lot.
- New HVAC Control system
- Updated indoor enhancements.
Future Vision:
- Digital Signage, Permanent Staff Offices, Chapel, Banquet Hall, and Kitchen. By expanding facilities, more community programs can be hosted.

The Master Building Plan was established in 1997 to guide strategic expansions of the church campus over time according to long-term ministry needs and growth projections.

You can give financially to the “Home Improvement” budget line. You can also volunteer your time or talents to the Facilities team and Trustees.

These major projects are currently in the research and planning phase. Timelines will depend on funding and resources, but we hope to break ground within the next 2-5 years.

In addition to our main worship center which serves a dual purpose as a double full court basketball court, we have a pavilion, playground, three baseball fields, two soccer fields, and outdoor bathroom.
