A Love Story
Sunday morning Connect Groups are designed to complement corporate worship by building relationships and furthering your growth as a disciple of Jesus in a small group setting. By joining one of our year round Sunday morning Connect Groups you will have the opportunity to not only become refreshed, but also to become connected to God and His people.
This group is for young adults, male and female, that are post high school, including college and graduate students as well as those seeking full-time employment. This Fall we will be studying the book of 1st Samuel.
This class taught on a Sunday morning is for those who wish to be baptized at First Friends Church. Come be encouraged with Jesus’ direction for our lives and celebrate the power of the cross through water baptisms. Baptisms will be held November 10.
Between Friends is a Sunday morning Connect Group that gathers together for the long term to build relationships. Our times together promote a personal relationship with Jesus through Bible study and mutual encouragement focused on changing hearts. It is our goal to be transformed by the Holy Spirit and to be equipped to live out and share the Good News. This Fall, we will focus on what God’s Word has to say about how Christians should treat one another as well as unbelievers as we aim to transform the heart, the home, and the world through building relationships that encourage and edify.
His Story is God’s story and our history, what actually happened. In this bird’s-eye view of the Bible over the course of 12 weeks, we will examine the lives of 12 Bible characters through study, discussion, and demonstration. We will focus on the order in which the stories occurred, what they teach us about God’s nature, and how we see Jesus our Messiah revealed.
We are a group of married couples with school-aged children. We study an assortment of topics on marriage, family and parenting, as we enjoy weekly fellowship, discussion and prayer.
The southern kingdom of Judah was carried off to Babylon starting in 605 BC. Jeremiah had prophesied a 70-year time of exile before the Jewish people would return. In 540 BC the Persian king began making sweeping changes to the Babylonian way of ruling. However, it took almost 100 years until the Jewish people returned to Jerusalem, rebuilt the temple, and rebuilt the city itself. Ezra and Nehemiah are the books of the Old Testament that best document this return. Join us as we cover this very important time in the history of God’s chosen people and how they dealt with adversity, despair, and finally, triumph. God’s chosen are always blessed, but not always in the way they think is best.
This class is for women of all ages and stages of life with a hunger for the Word of God. First Love takes its name from Revelation Chapter 2 as a charge always to remember Jesus as our first love. This Fall on Sunday, September 8 we will begin Andy Stanley’s video study Defining Moments. By examining the lives of people from Scripture we will look at what happens when we come face-to-face with a truth that invites us to change the way we live. Then beginning November 10 we will look at the nature of the Holy Spirit and how He helps us fulfill our God-given purpose using Bianca Juarez Olthoff’s study Play With Fire.
This group of adults of all ages is for anyone desiring an in-depth study of the Bible. This Fall we will study the book of John using the Illuminate Friends Bible study series. New participants are always welcome.
In the book of I Corinthians, the Apostle Paul addresses issues related to personal and church conduct. Some of the topics addressed include issues of division, issues of morality, issues of marriage and singleness, issues of gender in the church, freedom in Christ, order of worship, and spiritual gifts. Come and join us as together we study the book of I Corinthians. Open to all.
This group is for college age (18-25) young adults looking for fellowship and Bible study. We use Pastor Stan Hinshaw’s P.R.A.Y. model to study Scripture from the current sermon series, gaining insight from the Holy Spirit. We also occasionally meet for social and service events.
This group for parents of middle school and high school aged children studies topics relevant to today’s culture as well as issues faced by today’s parents and teens and how to handle them in a godly, biblically informed manner.
These will be brief and informal meetings, but of great importance. They are open to anyone who would like to participate in intercessory prayer for our church on Sunday mornings before services and Sunday School and on Wednesday evenings before Connect Groups and children’s and youth programs. We believe in the power of prayer!
Session 1: October 6–October 27 or Session 2: December 1–December 22
We are a group of single adults (age 40+), who come together for prayer and for study of God’s Word. Our focus is on Christ and on caring for one another in good and bad times. We take comfort in Paul’s words that as singles we are better able to focus on how we can serve Christ. You are welcome to join us as we seek to follow Christ. We are always open to new participants. This Fall we will continue our study Journey of Faith based on Hebrews 11:1, “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.”
