Community Outreach Day

September 14 @ 8:00 am - 1:00 pm

Begin the day with continental breakfast and prayer at First Friends Church at 8:00am.

9:00AM – 1:00 PM will be spent at the worksites. Pack a water bottle and a lunch as well as any tools or materials needed.

Rally Day
September 4th 7-9PM at First Friends Church.
Please bring completed release forms if required by the worksite.

Baskets of Blessings

Team Leader: Tammy Forsythe and Allison LaBuda

Description: Making and delivering gift baskets to say thank you and be a blessing to our local Fire, EMS and Police services.

Mission: This team will be staying at First Friends Church during the morning of September 14 to assemble the gift baskets. Afterwards we will divide into two teams and deliver the baskets to several Fire, Police and EMS locations.

 

Canton Calvary Mission

Team Leader: Theresa Maxin

Description: Light outdoor beautification work, indoor cleaning/sanitation. Possible painting project or general ministry organization.

Mission: Canton Calvary Mission helps the local community with food and services. Food programs include a Food Pantry, Direct Distribution in cooperation with the Akron/Canton Regional Foodbank, Wednesday Hot Lunch, Saturday Evening Meal, Children’s Backpack Program, After School Snacks for children and a Summer Feeding Program for children 1-18. 

 

First Friends Sports

Team Leader: Dan Kamwesa

Description: We are looking for people to be hosts, hand out water, and “Be a Friend” to our players and families coming to our FFC sports outreach on September 14th.

Mission: We believe that our first and most important mission in our community is to raise up a generation that has a moral/spiritual/ethical foundation. We use the platform of sports to accomplish this mission.  This mission does not diminish our desire to have a quality sports experience.  We have been doing this for over 50 years. We are a “recreational” league that is designed to give our players the opportunity to play the game in a safe and positive environment.

 

Habitat for Humanity House Project (Age 18+)

Adult release form required.

Team Leader: Jeff Whystell

Description: Deck sheeting: Install OSB sheets to complete the floor assembly. This task requires kneeling. Prior construction experience is helpful. Release forms will need to be completed.

Mission: Habitat for Humanity offers families strength, stability, and self-reliance through shelter. In need families have the opportunity to build and purchase their own home with an affordable zero-interest mortgage. The receiving families are surrounded and supported by determined volunteers and generous donors; a future full of opportunity is built.

 

Habitat for Humanity ReStore (Age 14+)

Minor/adult release forms required.

Team Leader: Diane Wilcox

Description: Inside prep and organization of the ReStore. Tasks could include but are not limited to cleaning and pricing merchandise, assisting customers, displaying items on sales floor, etc.

Mission: Habitat for Humanity ReStore is more than just a home improvement store. It’s a community improvement store. Our inventory is donated from people just like you. When your donated items are sold, the proceeds help Habitat for Humanity East Central Ohio create safe, stable, and affordable housing with local families in need.

 

Hammer & Nails

This release form needs turned in at our September 4th meeting.

Team Leader: Roger Foote

Description: Light outdoor beautification work, as well as light outdoor scrape and paint project (More details TBA).

Mission: Hammer & Nails is a nonprofit Christian outreach based in Canton, Ohio. Their mission is to improve the quality of life for homeowners in the Stark County area.

 

Heritage Christian School

Team Leader: Stan Hinshaw

Description: Working with teachers on classroom projects, painting rooms and outdoor fence/doors/etc.

Mission: Our vision is to provide an exceptional school experience with academic excellence which fosters Christian character and a biblical worldview, complementing the family and the church. Our students will grow in the knowledge of God through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in order to serve our community, nation, and world.

 

Homeless Outreach Team (HOT) Site 1

Team Leader: Steve Robison

Description:  We need some painting done at one of our homes for the homeless. 1. Paint window trim outside on the first floor. 2. Paint various interior rooms.

Mission: HOT is a ministry seeking to provide at bare minimum a safe, warm and dry place for those that cannot find it anywhere else. One of First Friends own, Steve Robinson, works tirelessly to help those in need to find suitable housing, food and job skills.

 

Homeless Outreach Team (HOT) Site 2

Team Leader: Steve Robison

Description: We are looking for a team to plant bulbs of garlic for our clients to harvest and sell at the local markets for income. We will also be laying down weed guard once the garlic is planted.

Mission: HOT is a ministry seeking to provide at bare minimum a safe, warm and dry place for those that cannot find it anywhere else. One of First Friends own, Steve Robinson, works tirelessly to help those in need to find suitable housing, food and job skills.

 

Lighthouse Ministries

Team Leader: Shawn Yost

Description: Inside prep and organization for The Lighthouse after-school program. Help assemble outdoor play equipment and organize their warehouse.

Mission: Lighthouse Ministries has been serving the youth of Southeast Canton by providing a safe place for neighborhood children to learn and grow through after-school programs, ministry clubs, summer activities and acts of service. Below is the story of our history as well as our hopes for the future

 

Refuge of Hope

Team Leader: Ben Croston

Description: Light outdoor beautification work, indoor cleaning/sanitation. Part of the team will be prepping and serving lunch.

Mission: Refuge of Hope – transform lives by providing hope that elevates people to reach their God-given potential. They intend to glorify and serve God by providing meals for hungry men, women, and children, emergency shelter and transition to independence for homeless men, and spiritual hope through Jesus Christ. 

 

Total Living Center

Team Leader: Mark Tschantz

Description: General cleaning, food pantry and clothing organization, painting, meal prep and serving lunch.

Mission: The Total Living Center can help give folks a warm meal, groceries, clothing, and even prayer! It is a place where disciples of Jesus are sharing the power, love, and hope of His Kingdom with others.
